We're all getting over our dry skin and the winter flu now that May is here, but what about all the new challenges that come with spring? I know I suffer from allergies big time and my skin starts to get oily again. Don't even get me started on my frizzy hair. Every season has it's own battles we need to over come, so here are 5 tips to help you kick those battles to the curb:
1. Ease up on the moisturizer
If you have oily or combination skin like me, it's time to ease up on the moisturizer. A lot of people preach that you should put moisturizer on your skin after every single wash. I disagree when it comes to oily skin. I have tried tons of different skin regimes due to having acne since I was about 14, and the one that I've settled on has been working for me for about 2 years now. I only put my moisturizer on in the morning. I notice if I put it on in the morning and at night I tend to break out more. My skin produces oils all day and night so by not lathering it up with moisturizer before bed, that allows my skin to go back to neutral. I use an acne treatment at night to clear it up as best as possible, then in the morning I moisturize, which will refresh my skin for the day and take care of any dry spots from the acne treatment. However, if you have dry skin, still moisturize morning and night, but once again don't lather up as much as you did in the winter because you will make your skin way too oily. A small drop to spread all over is all you need.

2. Drink more water
With it getting warmer out, you will get dehydrated faster. Not only is water good for your skin, but your immune system needs it, as well. By drinking a little bit more water than you usually do every day, it will help keep your allergies in check without having to pop allergy pills every single day.

3. A smoothie a day
Go out and buy a cheap smoothie recipe book and a blender. Eating good foods during the spring and summer months is just as important as it is in the fall and winter months. You need the vitamins and antioxidants you get from fruits and veggies to stop allergies and worse, spring and summer colds. Those are the worst! Plus, how fun is it the start going to the farmers markets to pick up the delicious fruits and veggies our local farmers are growing!? By blending up a smoothie, it's an easy all in one mixture you can have on the go!

4. Find new hairstyles
Unfortunately, I don't have a cure for frizzy hair. I've tried a lot of different products to help my lion's mane and haven't found one that truly works yet. I've kind of given up on that and accepted my frizz ball of a head in the spring and summer. I avoid heat at all costs. I try not to blow dry my hair as much, and I definitely avoid the straightener and curling iron if starts to approach 80 degrees. I like to experiment with new "up-dos" though. Some braids, some twists, a new place for the rubber band. It's fun, and you can find new and different hairstyles all over Pinterest! So instead of having a "bad hair day" make it a "new hair day!"

5. Go for walks
We've all been cooped up for too long. The best way to gain more energy and to enjoy the spring weather is to force yourself to get moving. When you start to exercise again you'll be tired, but after a couple weeks you'll start to notice a difference in your energy levels. So throw those cozy blankets to the side and tie up your laces for a nice little afternoon stroll of about 20-30 minutes every day to get your blood flowing again.
