So Portland basically has my Heaven on Earth. Powell's Books is a new and used bookstore that stretches an entire block in downtown Portland. You can find practically any book imaginable in there plus they have a coffee shop. It's one of the best places in the world, in my opinion!
They have the store sectioned off by colors/genres. After an hour of walking through the store you'll have made a big rectangle. Be careful though...it's really easy to pile up a big stack of books in your arms or your basket by the end of it all!
My favorite rooms and the ones I spent the majority of my time in was the fiction literature section (blue) and travel section (purple). The used books are fairly priced, and I ended up with a huge stack in my arms. I'd have to say my best find and purchase was a leather bound edition of A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway for $20!
Then there is this interesting sculpture right across the street from Powell's on the corner of SW 10th Ave and W Burnside St. It's called Pod and it was designed by a Portland native named Pete Beeman. The most interesting part about it in my opinion is that the middle part that sticks up towards the sky moves with the wind. It's meant to symbolize the vibrancy and life of Portland.
