Calling all horse lovers! Arlington Park is a horse lovers paradise. The race track is situated in the suburbs of Chicago and far out enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city that you can really enjoy a day at the races. Last weekend I had the opportunity to do just that!
Spending a Sunday afternoon up in the suites at Arlington Park is a little luxury I've always dreamt of doing. The suites have the works; drinks, food, and views. We ate and drank well and were able to see the races perfectly. We were even able to make bets right in our cozy little suite. We were hosted by America's Best Racing and had a grand time.
America's Best Racing is funded by the Jockey Club and is like the NFL of horse racing. They help to enhance the experience of the sport's lifestyle as well as showcase the best horses in North America. They work with owners, jockeys, tracks, and of course, the horses, to make the sport of horse racing bigger and better each day.
Caleb and I were lucky and got to go down to the paddock with ABR and see all the horses prior to their races. One thing we learned is to look to see if a horse looks happy. If they look happy, that probably means they will race well. When a horse looks tired, irritable, or sweating, that is a sign they aren't feeling the race that day and will not perform well.
A big part of the race track lifestyle is the fashion. Dressing appropriately is necessary at the track, especially in the suites. The park will not allow persons wearing jeans up in the suites. This is on any day, not just during the big races like the Derby or on a Sunday. Hats are always a good idea, too, in my opinion. They are fashionable and also keep the sun out of your face.

We also were able to view a race from the winners circle. After the race they bring the horses back in to the paddock area and we got to meet a few of these beauties! I made this horse a very happy guy with some carrots and lots of love. Being up close and personal with the horses really gives you a different perspective and so much more respect for the whole sport. I highly encourage every one to arrange meeting some of the horses as well as get to a place that allows horse back riding. You'll have an unbelievably fun experience. Memory Lane Stables in in Willow Springs, IL is a great place to give it a try and of course check out Arlington Park to see the professionals!
