I want to start off by saying a huge THANK YOU to Barrio Taco for taking us in. We were smelly, tired, hot, and had a pup, and with no one else in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland willing to feed us, you are without a doubt our favorite spot in Cleveland to have a bite to eat...we don't even to go anywhere else to say that.
Anyways, we ended up cutting our camping trip at Cuyahoga Valley National Park short by a day due to the heat over Labor Day weekend. We had a fun day in Cleveland planned out for the Monday of Labor Day, but decided to grab lunch there on Sunday instead so we could head home from there a day early. We joked and said that we gave up on camping and went and had brunch in the city (ha!) However, the place we had picked out for lunch on Monday was closed on Sunday. That made finding the perfect place to eat a little difficult. We were turned away from many places because we had our dog Wrigley with us. However, in the end we hit the jackpot by finding Barrio in the Tremont neighborhood!
Ok now on to the amazing food...

Food + Drink - A+ |
Barrio Taco really knows how to do brunch. I'm talking breakfast tacos and seared french toast with thick cut bacon here guys. Their brunch menu is the way to go on the weekends. However, if you decide to go during the week or later in the day on a weekend the tacos are just as good! They have a menu of tacos they have already put together for you that will blow your mind or you can create your own with all the choices of toppings and meats they have to offer...which is a lot! Our favorites were El Hangover and Barrio French Toast bowl for brunch and El Jefe from the Taco Suggestion menu. The special thing about the french toast bowl is they sear the cinnamon and bourbon on to the toast to give it a crispiness that is just incredible. They top it with whip cream and they don't skimp. It's amazing and I dream about it every morning before waking up for the day. We also built our own with the seafood of the day which was shrimp and added some cheese and pesto. So delicious! I also ordered a mimosa and Caleb had the monthly special which was a bourbon smash. They were very necessary after the morning we had and they turned our day around in the right direction. Barrio uses cider instead of champagne in their mimosa and it is actually very good! Give it a try if you ever have the chance whether you find yourself at Barrio or at home with some cider and orange juice. |
Ambience + Atmosphere - A+ |
We sat on the patio at Barrio and even though it was hot, it was still comfortable and fun! Everyone was very friendly and loved our dog, Wrigley. Other people brought their dogs along for a nice brunch, too, so if you want to brunch with your pup in Cleveland, GO HERE! I'm not sure there's anywhere else in the entire city that will let you have brunch with your dog? We were turned away from like 5 different places before finding Barrio! This place is a trendy American twist on Mexican food though, and we loved it. |
Location + Transportation - A+ |
I can really tell we ended up in the right neighborhood when we went to Tremont. It seemed like a very up and coming area with lots of cute shops and friendly people. There are a ton of restaurants in the area to choose from as well, but I'm gonna tell you again...go to Barrio! The parking was easy, too. We went on a Sunday and it was free street parking. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, too, so we didn't have to fight a bunch of crowds or traffic to park and get seated at Barrio. |
Extras + Details - A+ |
The staff at Barrio was as friendly as they come. They brought Wrigley a bowl of water immediately when we were seated. That held very high with us right from the start as it was 90 degrees outside and he was clearly very hot and a little uncomfortable. All the waiters were saying hello to him and petting him. He was as happy as can be. As for the attention to us, it was just the same. They did the right amount of checking up and we didn't have to wait long at all for our food. Barrio does not take reservations, but it is a fairly large place so even if they are full, I can't imagine the wait time to ever been too ridiculous. They do accept credit cards to pay your bill. |
Overall Impression - A+ |
Mexican food is my favorite kind of food, so I tend to be a hard critic on it, but I truly do give Barrio an A+ on everything. Their attentiveness and kindness to us really held high with us, too. I highly recommend eating and drinking at Barrio if you want good food, good service, and a fun time. Like I said right from the beginning, I don't have to go anywhere else to say this is my favorite restaurant in Cleveland. We will never forget you Barrio and will be back next spring! |
