We had quite the Saturday morning! We were up and at 'em at 5am and off to Wrigley Field to go for a nice little run. We ran the Race to Wrigley 5k, which raised money for Cubs charities.
Run the Race to Wrigley
One of the many places the Cubs lend a helping hand is the Lurie Children's Hospital. We had the humbling opportunity to meet a little girl who has cancer and is a patient at the hospital. All I've been thinking about since is how I ran for that little girl and gave her a little bit more hope. It's the best feeling in the world. Plus, Caleb and I had so much fun and are so excited to get back in to running!
A little Wrigelyville advice...if you have a car, don't be afraid to drive. Especially on the weekend. We found easy meter parking on Southport. We paid a whopping $3 to park there for 2 hours and it was about 1/4 mile from Wrigley Field. Oh and there's an Anthropologie on that street. If you don't want to brave the Chicago traffic, the CTA is always a good choice. You can take the red line right to Addison and be right across the street from Wrigley. The red connects to all the other lines in the loop and is only $2.50 one way with free transfers. So now that you all know what to do for next year's Race to Wrigley, I can't wait to see you all there ;)

After the race though, we weren't done with our #EpEx14 of the weekend. We went to The Doughnut Vault after...yes Saturday was basically my dream come true...I ran through Wrigley Field and then went to the best doughnut shop in Chicago afterwards.
Go to the Doughnut Vault
The Doughnut Vault is literally a hole in the wall shop that can fit all of 5 people inside it. They open up around 9-9:30am and stay open until they run out of doughnuts. They have a different special every day (Saturday it was salted caramel with pecans...so dang delicious!) and a different filled every day. Then the only other kinds they have are the ones you see listed to the right. We got there right at 9:30am and waited for an hour. Lucky for us they still had the special left, so it was beyond worth it. We got 2 of every kind and each one was like eating little bits of heaven. If I had to pick a favorite though it would be the salted caramel. And of the regulars, the buttermilk old fashioned takes the cake. I'm already dreaming about going back, and I just had the vanilla glazed for breakfast. Yes they're that good, and yes I'm that in love with doughnuts.
The Doughnut Vault is located at 401 1/2 N. Franklin St. It's right on the corner of Franklin and Kinzie in River North. You can follow them on Twitter and they announce what the specials will be the day before and the morning of, so you can always be in the loop with what this heavenly little shop is serving every day.
