Like I said before, not everything on our #EpEx14 list involves traveling. Just like building our coffee table, the one we chose to knock off the list this week was a stay at home and try something new type of experience.
Grow a Small Garden ✓
Caleb and I have never had the opportunity to have an area to grow plants. Caleb loves cooking with fresh herbs, and I enjoy having flowers around. We decided it would be fun to take on the long term project of growing a "garden." And by that I mean potting some plants and growing them on our balcony to make it feel more homey. We don't have a yard yet, so we had to improvise. We had some lovely pots already around the apartment that we decided we were going to use and also picked some up from Ikea and Meijer. We also got really lucky and found all of our flowers, seeds, and herbs at Meijer. We of course picked up some Miracle-Gro potting soil and a cute watering can.

Directions:
We're keeping them outside like a "garden" so they can get lots of sunshine and be watered from the rain as well as by ourselves with our cute watering can. I'm checking the soil about every other day to make sure it's moist. With the weather being officially warm and everything getting plenty of light, I'm excited to see the seeds start to sprout, and the potted plants to grow even more! It's important to re-pot them every once in awhile too, so that the roots have more room to grow. I recommend checking on them once a month. If you tilt the plant you can loosen the soil and check the roots to see if they are too compacted. If so, then re-pot with less soil or move up a pot size. If you have a large pot with a large flower bush though, you don't need to do it as often as you do with smaller pots like I have.
However, I am no expert and clearly new at this, so if you have any tips for me for keeping my plants healthy and helping them grow, please let me know!
Happy Summer!
