This "weeks" #EpEx14 actually spanned over 2 weekends. And let me tell you, these past two weekends have been two of the most fun weekends I've had in a really long time! They were filled with great music, great food, and great company.
Go to Summerfest ✓
I have never been to a big music festival and have always talked about how I want to go to Lollapalooza. However, purchasing tickets didn't work out so well this year, so I was recommended to check out Summerfest. Best idea ever. Summerfest had everyone that I truly wanted to see at Lollapalooza and more! The best part, it was less than half the price, and I could go 3 days instead of the 1 day I could afford for Lollapalooza. The entire set up of the festival was incredible. You could hop from stage to stage, grab any kind of food imaginable, it was right on Lake Michigan, and it was just a downright good time. |
Caleb and I went up there for our first day of our passes last Saturday to see Kongos (who were so amazing go download their album right this second!) Prior to getting to the festival we decided we wanted to have dinner somewhere downtown because neither of us have really ever explored Milwaukee before. We picked the Milwaukee Ale House. It was right on the Milwaukee River and the food was delicious. We tried their in house brews, which I give two thumbs up. I'm going to let you all in on our big secret of the weekend, too. We found a parking garage on Water St. that was only a couple blocks down from the Ale House, which was only about half a mile from where Summerfest was. It was $6 to park there. Mind blowing for someone who is use to Chicago parking prices. When we got to the festival we walked around a bit, listened to some random band play some 90s cover songs at a little picnic table that overlooked Lake Michigan, grabbed a Summer Shandy and had a blast singing along to Kongos!
The 2nd night that we picked to go back up was the 4th of July. We only went up for this music this time, and we got to see Fitz and the Tantrums and Timeflies! Both were really good! We also enjoyed some ice cream from a stand inside the festival. Cedar Crest Ice Cream was so delicious that I'm not sure the word delicious cuts it. I got Pirates Booty in a waffle cone. It was just a mixture of amazingness (M&Ms, chocolate chips, marshmallows, and I don't even know what else.) But get it if you ever see one of these ice cream parlors. |
We spent all day Saturday exploring the Third Historic Ward of Milwaukee before our 3rd and final day of Summerfest. Lets just say it was a day filled with delicious food and wine, shopping, and best of all, great company. My friend Abby had joined us for our last 2 days of Summerfest, and the 3 of us had a blast wandering around aimlessly until it was time for us to hit up the festival. We had dinner at Water Buffalo before the concert, which yet again I recommend checking out. Our final night at the festival was probably my favorite because we got to see Ingrid Michaelson! She sounded so great live and has such a fun personality. Definitely one of the best performances I've ever been to.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing you again quite soon Milwaukee, and we'll definitely be seeing you again next year, Summerfest! Thanks for the amazing couple weekends Milwaukeeans!
