A good friend of mine a couple weeks ago asked me over drinks if I could have dinner with anyone in the world who would it be? The only stipulation was that the person had to be alive. I thought about it for a few seconds and without hesitating said, "Amy Poehler."
In my opinion, Amy is incredible. Sure she is an actress and so adorable and pretty, but that's not why I think she's incredible and why I call her my idol. Amy is INSPIRING. She encourages every person in this world to change the world by being themselves. That is just so beautiful to me. As a woman who struggled with figuring out who she was for a very long time, her motto really speaks to me. I'm not going to lie to you all, I use to want to be like other people because they looked happier than I was. Then one day it just dawned on me, I'm never going to be happy when I'm trying to be someone else because I'm always going to come up short. I started doing what I love and allowed myself to be the quirky weird girl that I am, and I can finally say that I'm happy.
I started admiring Amy this past fall when the new season of Parks & Rec started. (If you don't watch it...go add it to your instant queue on Netflix...you'll be addicted in 20 min.) I thought Leslie Knope was just so fantastic. She inspired me to work harder at my job and to be more up beat even when the going got tough. I found this awesome image on Twitter about the character that I keep as my lock screen background on my phone from time to time...

It's just so perfect! You would have to watch the show to fully appreciate it, but it's just a great reminder to be the happy, hard working, awesome friend, girlfriend, daughter, crazy, funny, smiley, gorge your face in waffles woman that you are.
As time went on though, I discovered Amy's campaign called Smart Girls at the Party. It's by far the best thing I've ever found on the internet. The entire campaign is dedicated to encouraging girls to just be who they are. I check the Tumblr every day, which is honestly where I get a lot of my inspirational quotes that I put on Twitter and Facebook all the time. I also try to watch as many of the YouTube videos I can possibly cram in during my down time. Not only does it keep encouraging me to be who I am, but it also inspires me to preach it all of my friends and followers.
To add to her amazingness, Amy is coming out with a book in October titled Yes Please. My wonderful boyfriend already pre-ordered it for my on Amazon, and I suggest you all go and do the same! I can already tell you it's going to be one of the best books out there.

"I like bossy girls. I always have. I like people filled with life."
"You become more attractive when you love yourself. You attract the right things when you have a sense of who you are."
"I want to be around people that dream and support and do things."
"There's power in looking silly and not caring that you do."
"No one looks stupid when they're having fun."
