Our 2nd day in San Francisco was pretty jam packed. If you remember from my post on the Embarcadero Waterfront, that was a part of day two as well as going to PIER 39! We walked all around the pier and had so much fun. We saw the sea lions, had some great views of Alcatraz and the city sky line, I tried clam chowder for the first time, and did some pretty good people watching.
I tried my first ever bowl of clam chowder in a San Francisco sourdough bread bowl at PIER 39 on that day. I have seriously been missing out! I'm glad I waited to try it at a place like Chowders at PIER 39 though because I wanted to make sure it was going to be the best of the best, and I so badly wanted to like it! And that I did, I really really love clam chowder now.
There were so many little shops and eateries at the pier that it was impossible to see it all. PIER 39 is worthy of many trips to eat and see everything that they have there. I did manage to get a comfy San Fransisco shirt from one of the shops though. I'm all about those little tourist traps and always cave and get shirts that say the city I'm in. I know...I'm a sucker and I'm cheesy.
We also stopped off at a vendor that sold oysters that you crack open to get your own pearl. I picked a nice small oyster that came with a big pearl! It was very exciting, and I got to yell all kinds of things in Hawaiian. I plan on adding the pearl to a charm bracelet I have in the works of some special tokens I hold near and dear to my heart.
We also made a short stop on our last full day in San Fransisco at PIER 39 prior to our Alcatraz boat cruise. PIER 39 is located right next to the pier you need to go to for the Alcatraz cruise and since we were early and hungry we decided to grab some fruit for breakfast and enjoy the sunshine at PIER 39 one last time.
Next time we're in San Fransisco, I definitely plan on going back to PIER 39, and I'm making it a priority to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Even though we have one at Navy Pier in Chicago, there's just something about being able to say I ate at Bubba Gump's at PIER 39. The wait time is always ridiculously long, so we gotta plan accordingly!
MINE, MINE! << Finding Nemo reference in case you thought I was crazy ;) [we heard a lot of this at the pier]
