Our Portland trip was full of adventures, including food adventures! I made it a point to try new foods and be a lot more adventurous with my meal choices. I went full speed ahead at the first place we went to for lunch, Shut Up and Eat!
Food + Drink
I'm gonna start out by letting you guys in on two little secrets...I've never had ginger beer/cider and I'm not a huge salad person. So with that being said my drink choice of Schilling's Hard Ginger Cider and lunch order of the berry, yam, and squash salad with chicken was the biggest shock ever. But like I said, I wanted to try new things and I thought what the heck...I'm on vacation...if I don't like it I'll just order something else! However, that was not necessary at all. The ginger beer was so refreshing and went perfectly with my salad. I really really love squash, so the salad wasn't too difficult for me. Plus it was a spinach salad, and I'm all about that. The strawberries made it so fresh and the yams made it nice and sweet. I thought the salad sounded really strange but everything complimented each other so well! Ashlyn's lunch choice was the chicky cacch sandwich...that's what we like to call chicken cacciatore. It was a little spicy, so beware if you're not in to that. If you like spicy like me though it was really really delicious!

Location + Transportation
Shut Up and Eat is located on the southeast side of Portland. When we were out there we chose to drive and there is a little parking lot for the restaurant that you can park in. I have heard great things about the bus and rail system out in Portland though and I did see buses going by the restaurant while we were there.

Ambience + Atmosphere
I thought this was the perfect lunch spot. We sat at the counter and got to watch all the action for the food prep and cooking. Everyone was in and out pretty quick, just stopping in for a quick bite and going about the rest of their day. It's a real causal and friendly place despite the name!

Extras + Details
This is a no reservations needed kind of place. The service is fast and you seat yourself. The restaurant is actually split up in to two sides...dine in and dine out. You order your main meal on one side, which is where you can sit or just get it to go and the other side is where you get soup and Italian ice to go. I suggest stopping on both sides as you won't regret your decision to fill in the cracks with some Italian ice. It was an incredibly cheap lunch especially for the portion sizes they give you. I ate about a 3rd of my salad and was stuffed! They take cash and credit.

Overall Impression
I'm so glad we went to this place for lunch one of the days we were out in Portland. It gave me a chance to try something new and healthy! I loved how cheap it was and the service was excellent. I'm also a fan of huge portion sizes to really get your moneys worth. Since I don't reside in Portland I took my salad to go and gave it to a homeless man and his dog. I know they were grateful for the huge portion size, too! It was an all around delicious afternoon, and I highly recommend it for grabbing a bite during lunch!
