Everyone tends to "ignore" their health in the summertime. Not on purpose, but we all tend to somewhat forget about it because it's not cold and we probably aren't going to get sick. However, it's still very important to keep up with a good health regimen so that you don't get sick, your hair and skin stay healthy, and you just continue to feel great in general! Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you want to just race out the door to enjoy the beautiful summer:
1. Always wear sunscreen
I know we hear it all the time from everywhere, but I'm going to join the preaching club and tell you all to WEAR SUNSCREEN. You might not think skin cancer will happen to you because it doesn't run in your family or something like that, but why would you risk getting sick because you might not get it. I'm all for being a nice bronze color, which you can still get with wearing sunscreen, it just might take a little longer to get to the perfect color you want. And that's okay. Think of it like losing weight...it's not going to happen over night if you do it in a healthy way. Wear sunscreen and protect your skin while you're out getting your bronze life on.
2. Drink lots of water
It's hot out there. Yeah we might still be going through a polar vortex right now, but you can still get dehydrated in 70 degree weather. I recommend drinking one or two more glasses or bottles of water a day. I usually have about two camelbacks or 4 full cups of one of my tumblers. However, with it being hotter and especially when I work out I try to do three camelbacks or 6 full cups of a tumbler. There's nothing worse than waking up with a dehydration headache in the middle of the night! Drink up, friends!
3. Use non-silicone shampoo & conditioner
This is technically important all the time, not just in the summer. However, I personally like to wear my hair more natural aka super curly in the summer. Even though we love the lather, silicone and sulfates kill your hair. You may think your hair is cleaner with a foaming shampoo, but it's not, it's just as clean with one that doesn't lather up. You will get way more split ends and dried out hair if you use a shampoo with silicone in it. Try your best to stay away from them. There are many other shampoos and conditioners out there for similar prices. Try Organix, Burts Bees, and L'Oreal. Just check the label real quick next time you go to buy a bottle, and that extra 15 seconds you take will do wonders for your hair!
4. Carry blotting tissues with you
A long day of humidity and makeup is not the best thing for your face. It's hot and you're going to get a little sweaty and shiny as the day goes on. In the middle of the day when you're running to the restroom, take a blotting tissue with you and blot your face with it. It will soak up some of the excess oil that has accumulated throughout the day and reduce breakouts! Try NYX Matte Blotting Paper.
5. Snack snack snack!
The heat can take a lot out of you. The best way to regain some energy isn't to down some more caffeine but to eat! Food is fuel for our bodies, and the best way to keep your energy and mood up is to eat all throughout the day. Carry a snack with you in your bag so that way when you feel that 2 o'clock crash coming on you can push through and feel just as good as you felt mid-morning! I've been loving the Fiber One 90 Cal Chocolate Cookies lately!
