It's no secret I'm a coffee fiend. Some people that know me even call me a coffee snob. I like to think of this as a positive rather than a negative because that just means I only drink the best of the best, right!? Well, I'm a big fan of a well brewed cup of Joe from your bigger chains like Starbucks, Peets, and Caribou, but I truly love local shops the most. Portland has some of the best coffee there is, so here's a list of what I think are the best coffee shops in Portland!
1. Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe
This little slice of heaven in the Alphabet District is incredible. We walked in there for a pick me up and I squealed with excitement (this is not an exaggeration...ask Ashlyn)! They have a beautiful huge case of macarons and truffles in all kinds of flavors. I forced myself to turn to the coffee menu first, and I'm glad I did because it was incredible. Thing to order: a latte.
The Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe that we visited is located at 526 NW 23rd Ave in Portland.
2. Stumptown Roasters
This coffee is served city-wide. Most places you go that don't brew their own beans serve Stumptown. It's like the Starbucks of Portland. It's strong and gets the job well done. If I had to pick a bean to serve everywhere in Portland, it would definitely be Stumptown. Thing to order: a macchiato.
The Stumptown Roasters we visited is located at 128 SW 3rd Ave in Portland.
3. Heart Coffee
This modern coffee shop knows how to do it. I downed my iced vanilla latte like it was water on a 100 degree day. Their espresso is so smooth and gave me the energy jolt I really needed on the last leg of our trip. It was a true pick me up! Thing to order: iced vanilla latte.
The Heart Coffee that we visited is located at 537 SW 12th Ave in Portland.
4. Barista
This is on my list to try next time I'm out in Portland. This is a multi-roaster cafe that serves Stumptown. Obviously can't go wrong there! I've heard great things about this little shop and the fact that some award-winning coffee guy opened it tells me this one is a must. I didn't even know there were awards for coffee lovers? Regardless, I trust the guy and can't wait to try it out. Thing to order: a cup from a small local roaster.
Barista has 4 locations and I plan to visit the 823 NW 23rd Ave location.
5. Courier Coffee
Another on my list to visit shops. It has an indie vibe to it, which I love in a coffee shop. Those kinds of cafes always feel so cozy. The coolest part about this shop though is they deliver coffee via bicycle! This is how the business was originally started and now it has grown in to a full cafe. However, they have kept up the very first service they provided with coffee by bike. Thing to order: a pour over drip coffee.
Courier Coffee is located at 923 SW Oak St in Portland.
