I am always one of those people who wonder what other people have on their phones. I guess you can say I'm nosy ;). I'm always interested in what different apps people are loving these days, how people edit their pictures to look so spectacular, and just what helps people get through their days. Our generation spends a lot of time of our phones. Are we all just on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat all the time? Or are there are apps that are out there that are just as intriguing and useful? Of course, the majority of my battery is probably wasted by the main 4 that I just mentioned, but at the end of the night when I'm closing all my apps down before I go to sleep, I tend to always be closing these apps down along with FB, Insta, Twitter, and Snap. Here are my top 10 phone apps besides the fantastic 4!
1. VSCOcam - This is my favorite app on my phone. I'm obsessed with posting pictures to Instagram if you couldn't tell by now, and I use this app to edit all my photos. Sometimes when it's a perfect day outside I will post au natural, but most of the time I like to tweak the exposure and contrast of my photos, which this app allows you to do!
2. Urbanspoon - Have you ever been in the position where you're hungry, but you don't know what to eat because you're so indecisive and so is the person who you are grabbing a bite to eat with? Yeah, me too. ALL THE TIME. This app is awesome because you can search for restaurants near by, do a random "shake" of picking a restaurant that is near you, and much much more. They have menus, reviews, hours of operation. It's so handy. You can alter it to just one type of food, one town, or one price range. I shake a few times to get a few options and pick whichever sounds the most appealing. It definitely cuts out a massive amount of time on food decision making.
3. Credit Karma - Nerd alert! I like to know my credit score at all times. Credit Karma is a free service that gives you your TransUnion credit score 24/7. It keeps me aware of my spending on credit cards and it's just so lovely seeing my car and student loan payments go down on a regular basis. It gives you a report card with A to F ratings on each section of your credit. If you're always wondering how your credit is looking, but you don't want to pay for your score, sign up for this service, it's seriously so awesome.
4. OpenTable - Sometimes it's hard to get a table at restaurants in Chicago. I keep Open Table handy on my phone so if Caleb and I decide on a restaurant for date night or want to have an impromptu brunch, I can just hop on this app and make reservations for us. I can't tell you how many times we will decide to randomly go to brunch at our favorite spot (Bistrot Zinc) on a whim. On the drive there, I will just make a reservation for the time I think we will get there and then we get seated immediately. It's fantastic. They also have deals sometimes, where if you make a reservation through their service you get a free drink or dessert with your meal. Pretty great, right?
5. BBC News - If you remember my Morning Routine post, I read a BBC article every morning before I get out of bed. I also read one every day while I'm having lunch. It's my way of keeping up with what is happening in the world and just being in the know. I also have the app set up to do push notifications, so if there is any breaking news, it will send me an alert with a short description of what is happening. I know I'm a nerd, but it's alright. It's been working for me for 23 years, so why stop now?
6. Runkeeper - I use this app whenever I go running, walking, and biking outdoors. It uses GPS to keep track of your distance, time, and route for each workout. I have it set up to where it alerts me every 1/2 mile how long I have been going for. I used this app all last year when training for my half marathon and will of course be using it again this year. You can set up goals for yourself to reach on certain days, which is a great motivator. Right now, I have it set up for running a 5k on April 12th, since that is when I will be running the Race to Wrigley. On top of all that, it keeps track of your PR's, too! It will tell you when you've run your farthest run, fastest run, etc.
7. Foursquare - Yes, I still use Foursquare, and yes I still love it. I don't get many badges anymore because I have apparently tapped out and won't be making it to London or Paris any time soon, but I think the points system is still really fun. I also like using it to search for places that I might need the address for, which then I can just export to Maps (because sorry Maps sucks at finding addresses for you) and also can see hours of operation for pretty much every store, restaurant, or whatever else I may need. Foursquare Day is coming up soon, you can download it and get the nifty badge they always release on 4/16 ;). If and when you do download it, add me as a friend! I love seeing where every one is having their daily adventures at!
8. TC Cities - This is a fun one, too. Travel Channel came up with their own app and organized all the places their shows visit by city. You can search for all the restaurants and sites that Anthony Bourdain visited in his shows, or the ones that Samantha Brown went to when she had her show, or you can just view every single place that is featured on their channel in that city. It's a great first stepping stone for planning a trip some where that you've never been to and are looking for recommendations for. I mean, Anthony Bourdain is pretty dang awesome, and I always want to go to all the places he eats at. So instead of DVRing every single show to get the San Francisco one and then writing down all the places he went to, I can be lazy instead and just look it up on my app and plan from there. Oh and you can also make a travel itinerary, ON A MAP, AND SEE YOUR ROUTE...yeah pretty much my dream app.
9. Lose It! - I use to use MyFitnessPal, but I just couldn't really get in to it. It allowed so few calories that I would always go over and you couldn't log weight training or ab workouts. It was like they didn't count as workouts and burning calories? Excuse me, but I think they do! Lose It! does calculate all that for you the best that they can. You can pick if you did a moderate or vigorous workout for every kind of workout you can possibly imagine. They also allow you a little bit more of a reasonable amount of calories per day. I'm not completely sold on it yet because I'm not really in to counting calories all that much, but it is nice to see what I am putting in my body every day, all laid out in front of me. That way, I can make more conscious choices on what I'm eating and be successful at the ReCreating Healthy Habits series.
10. Stellar - I'm really loving this app. I watch the story I made about Wrigley all the time. I am also going to make stories for each #EpEx14 item that Caleb and I partake in. If you like throwing your pictures together to create something fun, download it. You'll have a great time with it.

Runkeeper is seriously fantastic, you definitely should! I'm starting like lose it more and more as I'm not having to find foods all the time since my usual foods are saved now. I'm glad I switched!
