I was reading another blog this morning, and the post happened to be about how the writer's family is taking a visit out to Mendocino County, CA in the upcoming month. I then realized I never really let you all in our on adventures from when we went out to San Francisco/up the northern coast. You can read all about our wine tasting adventure here from our #EpEx14 series, but how about I highlight all the other amazing places we got to see on this trip of a lifetime? You all with me? Alright, well then let's go!
Let's start with going up the coast on the California 1 since I was inspired by the mention of Mendocino County. We shot over to the coast from Santa Rosa and started out in Bodega Bay. You know the Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds? Yeah, that little town. It's actually very cute and really quiet. We explored the town and went to the bay where we snapped a bunch of pictures and took in the fact that we have seen coast to coast with each other. It was a truly special moment. I almost thought Caleb was going to propose there (he said he actually almost did but then decided to stick with his original plan!) Then we got some salt water taffy...which was another special moment ;)
We proceeded north on the California 1 from Bodega Bay and stopped off in Jenner, CA at Cafe Aquatica for a cup of coffee. This coffee shop is situated right on the Russian River in the middle of the Sonoma Coast State Park.
After that we detoured back inland to go to Guerneville, CA, which I will highlight in a later post, but after that fun adventure in the redwoods we continued up the long and winding CA 1 towards our final destination of Fort Bragg.

As you can see it wasn't the prettiest of nights but you can kind of see the sun way off in the distance there. It was also high tide so no sea glass. We only spent one night in Fort Bragg, and the beach was actually closed! But we're rebels and worked our way around the construction fence and made our merry way down to the beach to watch the waves after a delicious dinner at The Cliff House. This right here, is where Caleb proposed to me. #allthetears and #allthefeels
I can say with absolute certainty that we will return to Fort Bragg many times in our lives to relive that special day and actually see the sea glass (ha)! The way back to Santa Rosa going through the mountains and the country side was just as pretty, and I would say we would take that way there and back in the future. However, I do suggest going up the CA 1 at least once in your life. It was quite the experience!
