Yellow Mondays' FAQ
Some general questions that are frequently asked by readers and friends:
Q: How do you plan so many activities in to one trip?
A: I research every single place I put on our itineraries to make sure they are worth our time and from there strategically place sites and restaurants near each other on the itinerary so we're not running all around town to get from place to place. Google Maps and Calendar are my best friends when planning trips. | See our actual itineraries here
Q: How do you pack for your trips?
A: This is a complicated question because it depends on the type of trip, location of the trip, and length of the trip. My typical thought process for packing though is a new top or dress for each day and half the bottoms. So for a 6 day trip I'll pack 6 different tops or dresses and 3 pairs of pants/skirts/shorts. I try to limit myself to 2-3 pairs of shoes and that includes the shoes I wear while traveling to said destination. If I'm going somewhere warm I bring 1 swimsuit. If I'm going somewhere cold I bring 1 casual coat and 1 nicer coat.
Q: Where do you find all the places you go on your trips?
A: Friends, Yelp, Zagat, Open Table, Time Out, Google fun things to do in ________, New York Times 36 Hours, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, Lonely Planet books, and other travel blogs.
Q: How do you keep your skin healthy when traveling?
A: I'm still trying to figure this out but what's been working lately is drinking a lot of water and putting on a mask when I arrive at my destination and then again when I arrive home. I personally use the Purity mask or the Fresh Rose Petals mask and they can be purchased at Sephora. I also never travel without my Clarisonic Mia, which can be purchased at Nordstrom.
Q: Who takes all your pictures?
A: Caleb and I take the majority of our photos. For photos that have us in them though, if we are with friends, then of course we ask them. However, we are not above asking strangers to snap some for us if we want a big group photo or if it's just Caleb and I. We also have a tripod for our camera, and we take advantage of the camera timer on my iPhone with my Gorilla pod that I purchased on Amazon.
Q: What kind of camera do you use?
A: We have a Canon EOS Rebel T3 DSLR and an iPhone 5S.
Q: What is your favorite place you've traveled to?
A: I don't like to play favorites but if you made me pick it would be Rome.
Q: How often do you travel?
A: At least every other month but sometimes once a month but sometimes multiple times in a month. It depends on what life is throwing at us ;)
Q: Why is your blog called Yellow Mondays?
A: My mantra is if you have a happy Monday then you'll have a happy week, and yellow is the happiest color on the color spectrum according to science or something... | Make sure you visit my actual About page to learn more about me, Caleb, and Wrigley!
Q: Would you ever move to a place you loved visiting?
A: I can't say this with 100% confidence because you never know what the future has in store but my answer for now is, no. I love Chicago and this is my home. I grew up here, we plan to raise our family here, and I plan to spend my home life here for the foreseeable future.
